Iron Man Helmet

In this project, I will be explaining the product design of this Iron Man helmet.

This is fan Art that I got to have some fun with for a personal project.

Process

Reference & Sketching

The process began by importing orthographic reference images of the Iron Man helmet into CAD. Sketches were created on multiple planes to define the helmet’s overall profile, jawline, and crown.

Solid Modeling

The base form was built using extrusions, revolves, and lofts to capture the helmet’s core volume. Careful attention was paid to the helmet’s facial angles and cheek contours to match the cinematic geometry. Half of the model was developed and mirrored across the centerline to ensure perfect symmetry. Repeated panel features and ear sections were patterned for consistency.

Surface Detailing

Key features like the eyes, jawline paneling, and faceplate seams were added using cut extrudes and split lines to emphasize detail. Surface features were fine tuned using fillets, chamfers, and surface offsets for a more refined, mechanical look.

Rendering & Presentation

Once complete, the model was exported into KeyShot for material rendering. Materials such as brushed gold for the faceplate and candy red for the helmet shell were applied to mimic the suit’s appearance. A high contrast lighting environment and reflective surface were used to enhance realism and showcase geometry.
